Our first event brought the Caribbean to the masses – without ever leaving NYC.
A four-hour open bar sponsored by Appleton Rum. Dishes by the two-time Food Network Chopped champion Chef Andre Fowles. Giveaways, live demos, performances, a great DJ, and a seemingly never-ending buffet of Caribbean food. If this sounds amazing, it was – and judging by all the laughter, dancing and everyone who asked “When is the next event?” we can definitely say this was a success! Our goal was to transform SOBs into a Caribbean oasis and highlight the region’s diversity and culinary contributions to the world – and we did it. Personally, we wanted to create an event we always wanted but rarely experienced – an event where you really get immersed in a culture through its food, culture and music, with some fun and entertainment thrown in the mix. We sold out to max capacity – if we allowed anyone else to come in, it would’ve been a fire hazard. Our very first event was for the books, and we killed it.
Also, we’d be remiss if we didn’t thank everyone who came through to make this event a success. Thank you to Chef Andre Fowles, Dartel McRae, DJ aQueen, the SOB’s team and Naisha at Urban Relations, in addition to our sponsors at Appleton Rum, Irie Jam Radio, Miss Lily’s and Grace Jamaican Foods. We couldn’t have done it without you!
